Puppy and Dog Training Classes in Bergen County NJ

Classes & Private Services

MM-worldtoy-320

Our average class size is small (typically 4-6 dog/handler teams) therefore you get more attention from the trainer(s) and we often have assistants in class, unlike many pet store classes where you will see 8, 10 or more dogs in one class. It is important to us that you and your dog get the support needed to succeed so that you are happy with your dog, because we are…Dedicated to Canine Companionship!

Class Descriptions

Puppy: My Puppy is a STAR Class!

Puppy Star Obedience is the most important thing you can do for your puppy! It is partly based on Ian Dunbar’s Sirius Training Methods and Terry Ryan’s methods.  The most common reasons that dogs are surrendered can be prevented during puppyhood. As a responsible puppy owner, you must prepare your dog for life by teaching them how to interact with our world properly. Your puppy will engage in an essential opportunity to interact with other puppies and people, learn to communicate and get along with other dogs, while also learning to focus on you with others around. You will learn to curb problem behaviors before they grow difficult as you will both prepare to enter Basic Obedience. Your puppy will begin to learn the the basics of obedience training, including recall, bite inhibition, building a chew toy habit, accepting touch in preparation for vet and groomer visits, targeting, desensitizing to and confidence building around things they’ve never seen before, but will likely encountered (such as hats, umbrellas, etc.). This course also offers advice and problem solving for elimination training, nipping/mouthing, possession/food aggression and other common problems. Due to the socialization aspect of this class, we allow up to eight dogs, but will have an assistant trainer in classes with more than five. This STAR Test (Puppy/Pre-CGC) will be given during this class.

Prerequisite: Puppies must be under 6 months of age at the 1st class.

Basic Obedience Waiting Room DogThis class is recommended for dogs who need to improve their life skills and required for all dog/human teams that are considering starting Agility classes.

We’ll also make at least one trip outside (location varies by class ability) to polish impulse control with more distraction.
