COMPETITION OBEDIENCE CLASS DESCRIPTIONS
Rally 1 (Advanced) Obedience-$180
Rally 1 (Advanced) Obedience is an opportunity for you to strengthen your bond with your dog as well as your skills. This is for anyone interested in competing in various dog trials such as AKC, APDT/USDAA, CDSP Obedience & Rally.
In this course, the Level 1 APDT/USDAA exercises & AKC Novice will be demonstrated and discussed, and opportunities to practice each exercise will be given each week. We will practice short courses and basic skills each week, discuss judging and scoring for each exercise, and have some fun! Each dog-handler team will receive a copy of the Level-1 exercises for practice at home as the weeks progress, as well as a variety of handouts each week to help you train your dog to heel and perform the necessary skills to be successful in rally competitions. This class hopes to inspire and encourage teams to continue training in Rally beyond this class and consider competing in Rally trials in the future. We will discuss mostly AKC and APDT/USDAA Rally in this class, though the exercises are easily transferable to those who want to compete in other venues.
Philosophy of Rally: Rally-O (or Rally Obedience) is an interactive dog sport that combines skills learned for basic and competition obedience exercises into a course where the dog and handler move from station to station completing each exercise. It is intended to be an opportunity to practice and advance the skills learned in your basic Obedience classes. Teamwork and fun will be emphasized in this class! If competition is your goal, you will learn the beginning (and advanced level for those who are ready) skills necessary for the beginning levels of Rally competition. Rally is a terrific dog activity which helps build a positive working relationship between dog and owner. Teams are allowed to use plenty of encouragement and give feedback to the dog even while competing. “Yes! You can talk to your dog!” Enjoy your time in the ring in Rally!
Goals of this class:
- Improve and practice your dog’s obedience skills
- Introduce you to all the APDT/USDAA Level-1 and AKC Novice Rally exercises and allow you to practice these exercises individually and on Rally courses.
- Learn more about the rules and regulations for Rally
- Review the basics of scoring for each exercise
- Experience rally courses of varying difficulty
- Inspire and encourage you to continue training in Rally
Prerequisite: Intermediate Obedience
Rally 2 (Off Leash) Obedience is an opportunity for you to strengthen your bond with your dog as well as your skills. This is for anyone interested in competing in various dog trials such as AKC, Cynosport (formerly APDT), CDSP Obedience & Rally.
All AKC Advanced and Cynosport level 2 signs will be added as well as improving heeling, attention and other important skills from level 1.
Agility Class Descriptions
Agility is a team sport where you work with your dog through a number of obstacles such as jumps, tunnels, A-frames, weave poles, teeter totters, and more. You will be working on competition grade equipment, which includes all items you would work on if you choose to compete, though many people simple enjoy this activity without competing. This sport is great for any dog as it increases their confidence and attention toward their handler (you) & improves communication with your dog. Children can work with their dogs as young as seven as well (I’ve seen many of them win competitions!). I am currently running four dogs in AKC, USDAA and CPE venues. Agility is extremely rewarding and fun!

What is K9 Nose Work?
• Great activity for all breeds and mixed breeds of dogs
• Can be helpful for reactive and fearful dogs as only one dog works at a time and all other dogs are safely in crates. In addition dogs learn that hunting is more rewarding than reacting.
• Teaches independence. Dogs do not have to look to us for answers. They have the answer, and we learn to read them. It is a great way for us to learn their language while building communication and confidence.
• We work inside initially but then search exterior spaces, vehicles, and containers.
• Lots of opportunity for competition, but that is definitely not required. This activity can be performed purely for the joy of working together with your dog, doing what they love best.
• No prior obedience training required.
Introduction to K9 Nosework is a wonderful bonding opportunity for any dog and handler. If you have a dog with a nose, you have a K9 Nose Work Dog! K9 Nose Work is a fun, search, and scenting activity that enables dogs to use their natural abilities to hunt. It starts out with the dog using his nose to seek out hidden rewards in one of several boxes. As your dog becomes more confident with his nose, the game expands to entire rooms, exterior areas, and vehicles. Dogs without prior training or dog sports experience can experience success early and there are plenty of opportunities for those interested in competing to find challenges to enjoy with your dog. The best part is how much fun it is for the handler and the dog. It brings out the best in your dog, and brings you both closer by bringing you into your dog”s world. Read more about K9 Nosework.
